Haiti Earthquake - update 1/22/2010

We have spoken with Pastor Noel's wife again this week and the grief of what is happening to our brothers and sisters in Haiti was evident in her voice. She had been trying to contact us by phone to tell us about friends and loved ones from the church in Terrier Rouge who died in the earthquake but had been unable to get through to us on the phone. Everyone in Haiti will know someone who lost their life in this devastating earthquake. School are still closed, as are the banks, and food prices are on the rise. For those we know personally in Northeast Haiti, the crisis is growing.

So how can you help? If you wish to make a financial donation, you may certainly do so and we plan to use it to help purchase food for the children in the schools once school reopens - perhaps in early February. People who were living in Port-Au-Prince are making their way back to their hometowns and many of them have already returned to Northeast Haiti. This will undoubtedly bring an increase in the number of needy children in the schools. While we are grateful for and applaud the incredible amount of media attention in the disaster area at this time, we will continue to serve the pastors we have partnered with in Northeast Haiti long after Haiti has left the news and the last reporters have gone home. We are in this for the long haul and we would appreciate your participation with us to help the pastors to help the people in their communities and, of course, to help the children in the schools.

If you wish to make a financial donation through PayPal towards the cost of food for the children in the schools we're working with, please log into PayPal (www.paypal.com), click "send money" and then send your donation to info@hishandsforhaiti.org.
