We have finally been able to talk to Pastor Noel's wife on the phone and she has reported that everyone we work with in Northeast Haiti is fine. School is closed and she did not know when it would reopen but they are not having any other problems there at this time. She said she would let us know if any problems develop for them and we will keep you informed of ways you can help them in the coming days as shortages are likely to develop. As we said before, what we've seen after previous disasters in Haiti is that whatever aid is already in the country and any new aid coming into the country will naturally be sent to the disaster area, leaving other areas of the country without the help they have come to depend on.
At this point in time, the best way you can help the children in our program or the pastors and their churches and schools is to pray for them. If you wish to make a financial donation, you may certainly do so and we anticipate it will be used to help purchase food for the children in the schools in the coming days as food aid is redirected away from their area. Food shortages and a rise in food prices are also expected so financial help for the pastors to be able to purchase food for the children would be a big help. We also anticipate that many of the people who were living in Port-Au-Prince will begin to make their way back to their hometowns so we are expecting an influx of displaced people in the areas we serve which will undoubtedly bring an increase in the number of needy children in the schools. In anticipation of this, any donations we receive towards earthquake relief will be set aside for the purchase of food for the children. While we are grateful for and applaud the incredible amount of media attention in the disaster area at this time, we will continue to serve the pastors we have partnered with in Northeast Haiti long after Haiti has left the news and the last reporters have gone home.
If you wish to make a financial donation through PayPal towards the cost of food for the children in the schools we're working with, please log into PayPal, select "send money" and send it to the following e-mail address - info@hishandsforhaiti.org.
We would also like to suggest that you also consider donating to other organizations, such as the World Food Program, or other organizations working in the disaster area such as Hungry for Life - whose US Director is a close friend of this ministry. If you wish to contribute through Hungry for Life, 100% of your gift will go to the relief effort in the disaster area. To donate through their U.S. office, clickHungry for Life - 25 To Life Campaign, put "Haiti" next to your name and modify the amount as desired.
You may also want to consider contributing financially to the cost of bringing in relief supplies to the millions of desperate people in Haiti. Missionary Flights International, with whom we are affiliated, was one of the first responders from South Florida bringing in desperatly needed assistance. They will continue to fly into Haiti with relief supplies and donations to assist them with the cost of bringing these things in would be greatly appreciated. You can dontate to them by clicking on this link - Missionary Flights International. Please join us as we pray for the people of Haiti in this time of disaster. As we have more specific information about the children in our program, we will post it here.
Thank you for your concern -
